HOW TO DECODE YOUR CANADIAN
1962/63 VIN / WARRANTY TAG

The following guide pertains only to Canadian-built 1962/1963 Ford F100, F250, F350 and Mercury M100, M250 and M350 trucks.

From the factory, the warranty tag was located on the door jamb pillar between the hinges. The information on the rating plate includes the serial number, info on trim and paint, axle ratio, truck series, wheelbase in inches, max GVW in pounds, and identifies the engine and transmission.

NOTE: The V.I.N. can also usually be found stamped in two places on the right-side frame rail. Scroll to the bottom of this page for more info. Be sure to check to ensure the V.I.N. stamped on the warranty tag matches the numbers on the frame.

The 1962 Canadian truck rating plate contains exactly the same data as the 1963 plate. The only difference between the two plates is the lettering change from block type to script of "Ford Motor Company of Canada Limited" on the 1963 plate.

Some information contained on this page is not specifically applicable to light-duty F-series trucks but is also included strictly for informational and general education  purposes.

ATTENTION 1961-1963 MERCURY UNIBODY OWNERS!
An owners registry is currently in development for 1961-1963 Mercury unibody trucks by Arthur Freeman of Houston, TX. This registry will include owners in the USA and Canada. The intended goals of the registry are:

1. To determine how many M100/250 unibodies are still in existence, whether running, a project, abandon or in a salvage yard.
2. To allow owners to communicate thru email. Additional contact is strictly up to fellow owners.
3. To provide a way to tell others their story about the truck
4. To establish a list detailing the specifics such as 1961, 1962, 1963, SWB or LWB, small rear window or BBW, 3 or 4 speed, V8 or 6, original paint colors

Please e-mail him a pic of the truck and a pic of VIN tag too. If you don't feel comfortable providing your VIN, please provide other info so he can get a more accurate accessment/count. If you see one of these trucks somewhere please take a pic so it can be included. He will try to locate the owners and seek info from them. This registry is not intended as a means to buy or sell, just to know what is available (truck specifics) and where it's located.

LOCATING YOUR V.I.N. STAMPINGS ON THE FRAME
In addition to the V.I.N. on the driver's door data plate, the number is also usually stamped on the frame in two different places, both on the topside of the right frame rail. The first one is in the engine compartment, just below the alternator on two-wheel-drive pickups or just behind the front axle on four-wheel-drive pickups.

The second number is stamped just under where the seat would be located. You'll likely need a flashlight and small mirror to read this one.

These frame stamps are usually hard to read, so be sure to grab a wire brush and some rags to clean the grime off. (NOTE: the picture at right is a '67 frame, but the stampings should be located in the same locations. There have also be isolated reports of a VIN found stamped in non-typical locations, such as on the left-side frame rail under the seat area.)
